Western New York

National Grid's Dunkirk-Laona project will rebuild approximately five miles of existing electric transmission lines in northeastern Chautauqua County. The rebuilt transmission lines will provide enhanced electric reliability for the Western New York region.

Project Quick Facts

Dunkirk-Laona is located in Chautauqua County, and travels through the city of Dunkirk and towns of Pomfret and Sheridan.
The project will replace existing 115kV wire and structures in the right-of-way. Additional easements may be needed for the construction and operation of the line.
Also included are technologies to improve response time and decrease maintenance costs.

The project is currently in its design and permitting phase.

Permitting and Participation

This project will require permitting under Part 102 of the New York State Codes, Rules and Regulations to proceed. National Grid submitted its permit application to the PSC on December 15, 2025. For more information about permitting, please see our Project FAQ page.
