Milestones Reached on Smart Path Connect Project

National Grid achieves two major milestones for its 55-mile transmission line rebuild

National Grid recently celebrated two milestones related to its landmark Smart Path Connect joint transmission project with the New York Power Authority, which is part of our historic Upstate Upgrade investment.

Cranes, pictured at right, lifted and installed the last of the project’s 644 poles in Remsen, rebuilding a 55-mile corridor to strengthen the state’s energy grid and strengthen it against storms. The poles will carry a 345 kV transmission line from Croghan to Marcy.

Crews working on Smart Path Connect clocked their 1 millionth field work hour on the project since ground was broken in December 2022. The project is scheduled to be completed in June 2026.
